Friedrich Wilhelm Delkeskamp painted a 4x3-foot map illustration of Switzerland looking south from Lake Zurich (at the bottom of the page). It marks peaks, villages, rivers and lakes, logging them in an index running along the top and bottom margins. The map includes a preface "by the author in German and French describing the four years of difficult and dangerous alpine field work."
"Delkeskamp was a noted Frankfurt painter who completed at least 12 panoramas and a wide variety of other works. He was a publisher and traveled during most summers gathering materials for his illustrations. He was also noted for his mountaineering in order to gain high perspectives."
